    ■Matsuyama Castle and “Botchan” Train

When you look at the Prefectural Office while standing in front of the bank, the “Botchan” train will run towards you. But in front of the City Hall, it curves westward and disappears immediately. So I looked into the train timetable and went back to the front of the bank many times to take pictures and draw. It seems that the “Botchan” train greets Matsuyama Castle while honking “Toot-toooot!”

    ■Oni-o-maru

Whenever I visit Shimanto City in Kochi Pref. where my father’s parents’ house is located, I always drop in at “the roadside station” in Kihoku Town in Ehime Pref. A powerful gigantic demon is glaring at me. It’s a huge demon (oni). That’s why I made the drawing paper larger. But if it scares little children they might cry, so I have made it a gentle demon.
The explanation on the stone tablet is written in very small letters, so I drew it in small letters in contrast to the size of the demon. Please take a look at it.

    ■Cliff of the world

There was a picture of a cliff facing the sea in some pamphlet. I’ve never been to a foreign country, but I felt like I was there, so I tried to draw while devising colors. I would like to save a lot of money and one day go to the place where I can see this cliff.

    ■Cats

    I like cats. Kitty.

    ■Cityscape

There are many buildings in Tokyo and Osaka. The number of large buildings has increased even in Matsuyama. I wanted to make such a cityscape. The windows of the buildings are freehand cuts from the silver paper found inside cigarette boxes. It’s hard to stretch and paste straight, but it’s fun. I also made cars running in the city from paper. It took time to make them while thinking about various cars, but it was amusing to make a lot of cars.

    ■Family

I made three-dimensional figures from drawings I have been making since high school, using waste paper like boxes and leaflets. They all have their names and their various places in the family structure. Despite being able to stand on their own they have to lean against the wall due to the difficulty in balancing so that parts like necks and legs won’t fall off.

    ■Yuzuki Group

I drew characters from Souseki Natsume’s “Botchan,” and the Akiyama brothers on a roly-poly toy made of paper clay. I received numerous reactions ranging from “interesting” to “unpleasant” or “strange,” but nothing can take away my satisfaction because I enjoyed making it. I wish to continue making more quirky expressions and animals.
