Light Parade ‘GINGA’

Prior to the start of Dōgo Onsenart 2014 this light parade by locals was a special event for Christmas. Around 600 people paraded along three routes with glowing balloons, transforming the historical Dōgo streets, parks, shrines and shopping arcades. After the parade, a balloon installation was also held at the Honkan.

Jiro Hirano

Born in Kanazawa, he formed Art Unit Complesso Plastico in 1987 and then exhibited at the Venice Biennale, following which he has continued work both individually and as part of his unit. Recent projects include “12 Billion Light Years” (Mito Art Tower) in which one experiences the memory of the cosmos through imagery and sound, the environment sculpture “GINGA” (Echigo-Tsumari Art Field, 2003), and “Corona Hot Springs-Experimental,” in which he made his own residence into a sensory art complex.
